There are a lot of things to finalize and prepare before a big move. Moving can be a stressful time, between downsizing and packing for your new place and ensuring you have all needed documents in place, things can get forgotten. This checklist will help with remembering all the little things.
MOVE IN CHECKLIST
ONE-TWO MONTHS BEFORE
Book your doctor’s visit ahead
If you know you’re moving to a retirement community, book a visit with your doctor. Many communities have paperwork that is required from your doctor such as medication lists, a chest x-ray for Tuberculosis and other medical statements.
Insurance
Just like at home, unexpected things can happen while living in a retirement community. Protect yourself and your belongings by ensuring you have tenant’s insurance in place before your move.
Book your Movers
Book your mover in advance, whether your using family and friends to help or a moving company, securing the help in advance is best.
TWO TO THREE WEEKS BEFORE
Change your address
If you know when you are moving, go ahead and change your address. This way none of your regular mail gets missed after the move and arrives at your new place without a hitch.
Cancel Utilities
One of the perks of moving to retirement living is not having to pay for utilities anymore!
ONE WEEK BEFORE
Share your new address and phone number with friends and family
Just because you are moving doesn’t mean that your friends and family can’t come visit. Hosting dinner parties is still an options, but rather than you worrying about the menu and the dishes, you and your guests can enjoy a catered meal in our private dining room.
Reminisce on all the memories you’ve had in your home
Leaving a place that you have called home for numerous years is never easy. Take the last week to think about all the memories you have made over the years and look forward to making many more in your new home.
